Sewing Upcycle

Project #1: Homemade baby burp clothes upcycled from cloth diapers.

That's right folks, I found the cloth diapers that my mother used on my very own bum in a long lost stashed away box in my parents' house. Thanks to a lovely idea found online I was able to embellish them a bit and they are now cute burp clothes. Super absorbent and now kinda cute I think they'll work perfectly.

Project #2: Alter too-short long pants into capri pants.

I got this pair of brand new, tag still in place, nice pants at a recent friend garage sale. Initially I was thinking I would let out the hem because that's what I normally do when my pants are too short. This time I decided instead to shorten them even more and make them capri pants. It is summertime after all and I could use some shorter pants. Simply chop off and re-hem to desired length. I additionally went ahead and sewed up the sides just a bit to account for the wide leg style of pants.

Did I mention these pair of pants were FREE!

Oh Tomato Plant

Inspired by this article from K-State Research & Extension, http://www.hfrr.ksu.edu/doc3384.ashx, I have applied my own version of red mulch. Studies have shown that by applying red mulch yields can be improved. I found this lovely Christmas tree skirt in the back of a random storage closet and felt like it might help. Or maybe the royal Christmas tree treatment of my tomato plant will make it feel so special it produces more tomatoes for me. Actually, all I'm asking for this year is some tomatoes. Even five whole tomatoes all season long will be better than last year. Please tomatoes, just grow!

Happy May Day!

I got my very own May Day basket tonight right in my own little abode. It was so sweet, two of my little neighbor friends pounded hard on my door and stood there with their smiling faces to hand me a May Day bouquet. I am so blessed!

I have been enjoying many wonderful fresh lettuce salads recently. Must eat more greens! Tonight I sauteed sweet potato in coconut oil, added cumin, chili powder, italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. Then I sliced shrimp and put that on top to steam for just a bit and added the leftover of my balsamic vinegar/olive oil dressing to the skillet. This went wonderfully on my fresh salad greens.
